Colleen Lee

Colleen Lee, 6th Prize Winner of the 15th International Chopin Piano Competition, has performed extensively around the world and has collaborated with orchestras such as BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Israel Philharmonic, Warsaw Philharmonic and Hong Kong Philharmonic, among others.  She was Artist Associate of Hong Kong Sinfonietta in the 2010/11 season and was featured in the orchestra’s tour to South America and Italy.

Lee has appeared in major festivals including International Chopin Festivals in Poland, Meissen Pianoforte Festival in Germany and International Keyboard Festival in New York. Her performance for the Magic Piano & The Chopin Shorts animation series at the 42nd Hong Kong Arts Festival had garnered rave reviews.

Lee studied with the celebrated pedagogue Eleanor Wong at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and furthered her studies at Hochschule fur Musik, Theater und Median in Hannover with Arie Vardi.

Lee was also a prizewinner of the Gina Bachauer and Santander International Piano Competitions. Her discography includes albums of all-Chopin and all-Scarlatti Sonatas. She was awarded the Commendation for Community Service by the Hong Kong Government in 2006 and Young Artist Award by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council in 2008.

Currently Lee is the Honorary Artist-in-Residence of the Hong Kong Institute of Education and a piano faculty member of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

Michael Leung

Leung Chi-hin was born in a metropolitan city – Hong Kong. With diverse cultural background, his compositions mix with both East and West thoughts, and with special interests in timbral and textural explorations. He was a champion of Hong Kong Handbell Festival Composition Contest, first runner-up at New Generation and won Hong Kong Composers’ Guild Audience Choice Award. Leung’s compositions and recordings are published by Schott Music (Germany), MOECK (Germany), Edition HH (U.K.), PARMA Recordings (U.S.), From the Top Music (U.S.), Oxford University Press (China) and Hong Kong Composers’ Guild. His works have been featured by ISCM World New Music Days, UNESCO International “Arts for Peace” Festival, International Rostrum of Composers, International Electronic Music Week, World Choir Games, International Handbell Symposium, ISME World Conference on Music Education, Asian Composers League (ACL) Festival, Asian Recorder Festival, Singapore Saxophone Symposium, Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival Vienna, Taipei Traditional Arts Festival, Musicarama, Hong Kong Schools Music Festival and many.

Leung received his Doctor of Music (Composition) degree, Master of Philosophy (Composition) degree, Bachelor of Education (Music) degree and Professional Diploma (Electronic Music) from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Institute of Education and The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts respectively. Leung holds FTCL in Music Composition and LMusTCL in Music Theory, Criticism and Literature. He is the Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Composers’ Guild (HKCG) and Vice President of the Hong Kong Association for Music Educators (HAME). He serves as a faculty member at the Department of Cultural and Creative Arts, The Education University of Hong Kong.
